Gregory Allan Kerns

December 5, 2014

Gregory Allan Kerns, 65 of Fort Myers, FL was surrounded by family when he passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers following a courageous battle with cancer.

Greg was born March 23, 1949 in Bellefontaine, OH, the son of Merlin and Bettie Jo (Wehner) Kerns. He attended Ohio State University and married Carole Henderson on December 19, 1970, in Bellefontaine, OH. Following the blizzard of 1978, sunshine was on the horizon when they decided to move to Ft. Myers, FL. Greg was an operations manager in the construction industry throughout his career and recently worked for ADB Homes. His main passions were offshore fishing in South Florida and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed boating, Ohio State Football, classic cars, NASCAR, and dancing. He displayed an exceptional, no-nonsense work ethic, which continued even on the day he passed. He was a very kind, good-hearted man who was always there for those in need. Surviving are his loving wife, Carole; children, Richard Allan Kerns and his wife Kay of Cape Coral, FL; Alison Elizabeth Ross and her husband Doug of Orlando, FL; Amy Jo Kerns, granddaughter Kylie, grandson James Dylan of Estero, FL; brother, Steven Kerns of Bellefontaine; mother-in-law Betty Jones; and his princess, Holly.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 13 at 1pm at Lamb of God Church, 19691 Cypress View Dr., Fort Myers 33967. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Research Institute, www.cancerresearch.org.

The Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home has been entrusted with Greg's care. Condolences may be left to the family at www.fortmyersmemorial.com.

I have known Greg for over 25 years and he was one of the finest men I have ever known. He had a wonderful zest for life and always gave 110% in everything he did.

Greg was actively involved in the construction of hundreds of homes, businesses, schools, churches and other projects in the southwest Florida area. Every day I can drive almost anywhere in Lee & Collier County I can see a building that Greg was involved with. His legacy is everywhere around us and his family can be proud of his accomplishments and influence he had in the construction industry in our area.

Greg was a wonderful family man and was always talking about his wonderful wife and children whenever I met with him. He often shared pictures of trips he had taken in the past few years with his family. These are wonderful memories that his family will treasure forever.

Greg was an avid boater and fisherman. I never had the chance to fish with him but he always had great stories about his offshore fishing trips. I'm sure fish did fear him and he was the quintessential angler.

I will miss him greatly but I feel very fortunate to have known and worked with him. His friendship and compassion or others was unmatched and that is the greatest gift anyone can give.

What a great man such a terrible loss. Greg was a perfectionist he had only one way to do things his way. He also enjoyed being orginized and clean, his truck was always perfect and his boat was even better. Greg was also very giving he made sure that when you were with him fishing or working you always had a good time. He had a name for everyone mine was Sally, "Sally Money" Eddie Money's wife. The name stuck and from that time in I was Sally. I will miss you Greg!

I enjoyed working with Greg he was a man who enjoyed perfection and efficiency. He only had 1 speed, FAST He only had 1 way to do things, his way, Greg was the most particular about being orginized and neat, from his truck to his boat every thing had its place. What a great man and an even better friend. You will be missed Greg!
