In Loving Memory of Audrey L. O'Connell Robertson Dec 20, 2013

Audrey (O'Connell) Robertson passed away in Chevy Chase, MD on Dec.20, 2013 at age 87. A second generation Washingtonian, she met her first husband William "Duke" O'Connell at Western High School in NW, D.C. They married Sep.15, 1946 and had two children, Patrick and Kathleen. They divorced in 1963. Audrey remarried in 1972 to WWII Navy LCDR Wesley Robertson and lived happily together until 2004 when her husband of 32 years passed away. A former beauty queen and pinup, Audrey brought awareness to our WWII wounded heroes after her husband Duke was wounded in combat by representing the Mid-Atlantic in the Disabled American Veterans beauty contest, eventually being crowned America's Sweetheart in 1947. An avid traveler and food connoisseur, her twenty year career in the (TWA) airline industry took her across the globe. Her love for travel inspired her to set up long term residences in Spain, Fort Myers Beach and Chevy Chase, MD. She moved to Ft. Myers Beach in 1980 and loved this home, her special friends & island the best of all. She is survived by her loving partner, Jim Russell of Ohio, her son and daughter in law, Patrick & Geri O'Connell of Alex. Va, her daughter & son in law, Kathleen & Joe McGuinness of Potomac, Md, and her three stepchildren Bruce, Glen & Corrine Robertson, many special grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved entertaining and spending time with her family. She was admired and loved by many and was particularly appreciated for her sense of humor and clever wit. She will be deeply missed. Arrangements are pending for a formal military burial at Arlington National Cemetery in February. A Ft. Myers Beach Celebration of Audrey's life will be held at Bay Front Bistro in Ft. Myers Beach on Jan 10th. Please sign online guestbook and more details located at Rockville, Md.
