EDWIN JOHN NEITZKE

Edwin John Neitzke, age 84 of Sanibel, Florida, formerly of Mount Laurel, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013.

He was born in Detroit, MI in 1928 to the late, Reinhold and Emma (nee Katanach) Neitzke.

Edwin served in the army from 1950-1952 after being drafted during the Korean War and was stationed at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin and Hanau, West Germany. He was honorably discharged and returned to Michigan to complete his college education.

Edwin graduated with a BS in Park Management and Urban Forestry from Michigan State University in 1955. He then went on to work as a sales representative for Dow Chemical Company of Midland, MI for 35 years. He married his college sweetheart, the late Patricia (nee Roberts) Neitzke in 1956.

He traveled over the country for his job and lived in Chicago, IL, Ames, IA, Omaha, NE, Skaneateles, NY, and Mount Laurel, NJ before retiring to Sanibel Island with his wife in 1990.

He spent his free time enjoying photography, playing bridge, and fostering his continuing love of urban forestry. He was actively involved with the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ in Sanibel.

He is survived by his son Kent Neitzke and his wife Julie (nee Alloway) Neitzke of Mount Laurel, NJ, granddaughter Lauren (nee Neitzke) Adamo of East Brunswick, NJ, grandson Justin Neitzke of Mount Laurel, NJ, and great granddaughter Cassandra Adamo of East Brunswick, NJ.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 1:00PM at the Sanibel Congregational UCC located at 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, Florida 33957. A reception will be held immediately following at the church. Interment will be privately held at Chapel by the Sea Cemetery on Captiva Island, FL at a future date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be given to the "Mission and Benevolence Committee" at Sanibel Congregational Church UCC.
