GEORGE EDWIN EDER

February 21, 2014

George Edwin Eder, age 90, died February 21, 2014 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born on June 8, 1923 in Chicago, the beloved son of the late Herbert George and Verna (nee Rabb) Eder, and his sister Mildred (the late John) Menk, predeceased him. He graduated from Chicago's Lake View High School in 1941. He joined the United States Coast Guard Reserves, and subsequently worked on the Alaska-Canada (Alcan) Highway in Alaska. He returned to Chicago to continue his studies at the Art Institute on a scholarship. He worked for Swift and Company as a photographer and film maker for more than 30 years.

He married the late Dorothy Moran in 1945, and their love produced 10 children: the late Constance (James) Loftus, the late Mary Therese, George (Julie) Michael, Patrick (Donna), Mary (John) Muehlistein, Eileen (Martin) Wagner, Michael (Nancy), the late Robert, James (Stephanie) and Thomas (Deanna). He adored his grandchildren: Jared (Sandra), Devon and Shane Loftus, Leah, Logan and Lane (Margaret) Koch-Michael, Patrick (Bee) Eder, Eric (Joanna) and Emily Muehlstein, Emily Wagner, Eric (Rachel) and Elizabeth Eder, and Quentin, Zane and Lolita Eder. He was the precious great grandfather to Chelsea and Olivia Loftus, Juniper and Maple Koch-Michael, and Leo and Veronica Eder, and benevolent uncle to many nieces and nephews.

George married Yvonne (nee Sutton) in 1986 in LaPorte, Indiana, and they moved to North Fort Myers in 1996. He had many passions which he shared with Yvonne, including music, dance, painting, photography and film. He spent much of his time in Florida in volunteer work, including meals-on-wheels, and at Cape Coral Hospital. He loved many people, and was loved in return. He will be missed by all.

A celebration of George's life will be held on March 22, 2014 at 1 PM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2635 Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider a donation in George's memory to St Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, (800)822-6344.
