GERALD "JERRY" HELFENSTEIN

June 3, 2014

Gerald "Jerry" Helfenstein passed in peace surrounded by his family on June 03, 2014 at the age of 85. He was a loving and loved father and husband. Survived by Mary Jo, his beautiful bride of 63 years, and their three children: Stephen (Becky) Helfenstein, Christine (Jim) Johnson, and Paul (Bettyanne) Helfenstein. Grandfather to six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family.

Retired Captain of the Milwaukee Fire Department. Attended University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and South Dakota State University. Spent many years in the US Army and Air Force Reserves. Founder and First Commodore of the MAST Sailing Club of Milwaukee. Former president of the Southwest Florida Symphony Chorus. Courageous firefighter, avid reader, world traveler, champion sailor, and enthusiastic singer.

This kind, loving man will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on June 16 at 3 PM at St. Hilary's Episcopal Church. Memorials to be sent to St. Hilary's Choir Fund at 5011 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
