Mike Rafferty passed away on June 9, 2014, shortly after celebrating his 38th wedding anniversary with his wife, Katherine Ann Randall. Mike was a dedicated family man and was loved by his peers at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement branch in Fort Myers. Mike and Kathe have been members of St. Columbkille, Church of the Resurrection, Our Lady of Light, and Saint John XXIII parishes since moving to Fort Myers from DeLand, FL in 1992.

After graduating from LeMoyne University in Syracuse, NY in 1976, Mike and Kathe wed and soon moved to Tallahassee, FL. He was part of FDLE's first ever class of crime scene investigators and was picked up by the Sanford office; after the Orlando lab was built, he transferred there. Mike was promoted to Assistant Bureau Chief of the Fort Myers FDLE office, working there since 1992. He retired as the Chief of Forensics earlier this year. He also worked with Tallahassee PD as a dispatcher, and DeLand PD and New Smyrna Beach PD as a police officer. During his years of law enforcement and crime scene analysis, he worked some of the most famous cases in Florida history. He had a wry sense of humor to combat the evil he saw at work.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kathe; son, Michael John (Kamber) Rafferty, Jr; daughter, Meghan (Sean) Owens, their son, Connor Owens; stepmother, Mary Tierney Rafferty; brother, Stephen (Betty) Rafferty; sister, Marcia (Kenneth) Jackson.

Funeral Mass will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Our Lady of Light Church. Visitation will begin in the Chapel at 10 AM with a Rosary starting at 11:30 AM. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to or Hope Hospice are appreciated by the family.
