Ft. Myers, FL - Raghuveer "Raj" R. Hoskote, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., 80, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013, at HealthPark Medical Center. A full-time resident of Ft. Myers for the past 11 years, he was born on October 22nd, 1932, in Mangalore, India, the son of the late Ramkrishna M. and Krishnabai (Kalyanpur) Hoskote.
Dr. Hoskote graduated from medical school in India and continued his training and residences in the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Michigan. He attained the level of 'Fellow' from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1980 and spent the majority of his adult life practicing in Woodsville and Derry, New Hampshire, retiring in 2001. He was dedicated to the high standards of his profession and was committed to each patient who walked into his office. One wall in his waiting room displayed a huge array of adorable faces: infants, brothers and sisters, twins, and even a grouping or two of triplets.
One of the proudest days of his life was March 24th , 1982, when he became a United States citizen. Whenever he spoke of the privilege of being an American and the ideals put forth by our Founding Fathers, there was always a tear in his eye and catch in his voice. He was a man of deep passion and conviction who woke each morning with The Lord's Prayer on his lips and went to sleep peacefully each night after meditative prayers.
Over the course of his lifetime, he was a 33rd degree member of the Order of Masonic Rites, a Lions Club member, an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness, and took active and vocal leadership roles on various committees and boards. After early morning 5-mile walks, he would spend time researching topics of interest or listening to classical Indian music.
Raj is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Anne (Cunningham) Hoskote, a stepdaughter, Susan Murad of Jamaica Plain, MA, a stepson, David Murad of Kent, Ohio, two sisters, Sumitra Dhareswar of Mumbai, India, and Suneethi Rao and a brother-in-law, Balanchandra Rao of Pimpri, India. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Verena Cunningham, and sister-in-law, Lynne Jackson of Portland, ME, and in-laws, Wallace and Mary Cunningham of Harwich, MA.
