Dr. Thomas O. Miller of Ft. Myers, Florida passed away May 31, 2014 at The Lodge at Cypress Cove. He was born on Sept. 5, 1928 in Rittman, Ohio. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1950, and from Northwestern University Dental School in 1953. After serving two years in the U.S. Air Force, he opened his dental practice in Dayton, Ohio, retiring in 1995. He served on the council of the Dayton Dental Society and was its treasurer for four years.
His hobbies were music, golf, tennis, bridge, private flying, and motor-homing. He was the pianist for The Docs of Dixieland, a five-piece combo that originated as a group of musical dentists from Dayton. In retirement he volunteered at Healthpark Hospital, playing the piano in the atrium. After moving to Cypress Cove Retirement Community, he also volunteered at the piano there. Tom also played for the Candlelighters charity for kids with cancer. He made a CD of his piano music for his wife for Christmas; anyone wanting a copy of this CD can obtain it from Cypress Cove for a donation to Cypress Cove's new Memory Care facility.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, the former Janet R. Asbury. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son David Miller; daughter Celynn Miller; stepchildren David Ross, Daniel Ross, & Laurie Cordaro; numerous grandchildren; and brother James Miller (Nancy).
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cypress Cove Memory Care Facility or the Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, FL.
