YORK — Benjamin F. Deitz, 92, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at York Hospital.

He was born in Shamokin, June 13, 1921, a son of the late Harry and Christine (Sunbury) Deitz.

Benjamin was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He retired from GTE/Osram Sylvania.

He was a life member of Loyal Order of Moose and Shiloh American Legion, Post 791, and also a member of Hellam VFW and Thirteenth Ward Political Club. He was active with both the 25 Year Club and the Breakfast Club at Osram Sylvania, and West Manchester Mall Walkers.

Benjamin is survived by three daughters, Betty J. Beckham and her husband, Harry, of Winnsboro, S.C., Lynda J. Elder and her companion, Steven Markey, of York, and Cathy A. VonRossum, of York; six grandchildren, Pam, Dennie, Jennifer, Cori, Kelly and J.R.; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Harry J. Deitz Jr., of Shamokin, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Clyde and Lewis Deitz, and a sister, Quilla Dean.

DEITZ — Benjamin F. Deitz, 92, of York. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, PO Box 311, Mechanicsburg 17055; or to SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N., York 17406. Todd E. Eckert, Heffner Funeral Homes & Crematory, has charge of the arrangements.
