MECHANICSBURG — Bernard J. Britt, 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born March 29, 1932, in Centralia, a son of the late Edward J. and Anna M. (Gallagher) Britt.

Bernard was a 1950 graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School and earned a degree from Penn State University in 1958.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vienna, Austria, during the Korean conflict.

Bernard retired from AMP Inc. as a product manager after 37 years of loyal service.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Shore Elks, Hershey Italian Club and American Legion Post 608 in Wilburton.

He was an avid Notre Dame fan who attended many games and loved to engage in post-game conversation regardless of the outcome.

He was a man of great faith and supported St. Joseph School and Trinity High School.

During basketball season, he was frequently in the stands cheering on the Trinity High School girls' and boys' basketball teams. Bernard enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of sports and extracurricular activities.

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Loretta M. (Rossi) Britt; five children, Ann Bailets and her husband, Ralph, Brian Britt and his wife, Lynda, and Michael Britt and his wife, Sheila, all of Mechanicsburg, James Britt and his wife, Debby, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Maria Hensel and her husband, Dr. Jerry Hensel, of Selinsgrove; a brother, John J. Britt, of Trevorton; 12 grandchildren, Claire, Dana and Meredith Bailets, Rachael and Emily Britt, Spencer and Catherine Britt, Morgan and Cooper Britt, Colin, Aaron and Maura Hensel, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Britt, and brothers, James, Edward, Harry and Joseph.

BRITT — Bernard J. Britt, 81, of Mechanicsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. Burial with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass Monday in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg 17055, or St. Joseph Catholic School, 420 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg.
