COAL TOWNSHIP — Donald A. "Pancho" Pacocha, 86, of 1510 W. Sterling St., passed away Sunday evening, March 9, 2014, exactly 24 years to the day of his wife Marie's passing, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township.

Born in Shamokin, Aug. 12, 1927, he was a son of the late Michael and Olga (Homiak) Pacocha.

He was a 1945 graduate of Shamokin High School, and attended Penn State University Agricultural College. He graduated as a certified meat inspector.

On July 29, 1950, in the former St. Stephen's Church, Coal Township, he married Marie A. Socha (Sock), who preceded him in death March 9, 1990.

Pancho served in the U.S. Navy during the World War II era on a minesweeper ship. He was awarded his honorable discharge Aug. 12, 1946.

For a time he was employed as a meat inspector for the State of Pennsylvania. He also owned and operated Pacocha Amusement Company for many years.

He was a member of Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin.

Along with the late Daniel Venn Sr., he founded the Shamokin Beagle Club. He was very proud of his many champion beagles that he had trained over the years.

Pancho was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a Pennsylvania State Archery Champion. He also enjoyed riding snowmobiles and motorcycles, shooting pool and darts, riding horses, cooking at home, and spending time on his computer.

He was always willing to help someone in need, whether through friendship, or helping someone succeed with a new local business.

Most importantly though, was the time he spent with his daughter, Lou Ann Pacocha, who survives.

His parents, wife, and siblings all preceded him in death.
