COAL TOWNSHIP — Jane Blodwyn Kearney, 69, of 2335 Jackson St., passed away at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born Feb. 26, 1944, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Quentin "Chappy" Peters, Dorothy (Yeager) Peters and Gwilym Richards.

She graduated from Shamokin High School in 1961 and attended Penn State University for two years and its Ogontz campus for one year before graduating from Western New Mexico University with a Bachelor of Arts. Jane later obtained a Master's of Education from Bucknell University, a degree in guidance counseling from Kutztown University, and a master's degree in social work from Temple University.

On Nov. 16, 1968, in Carlisle, she married Raymond Kearney, who survives.

Jane was first employed as a math teacher for Shamokin Elementary School, then as a caseworker and later administrator for Northumberland County Children and Youth Services. She finished her working career as a guidance counselor for both Shamokin and, later, North Schuylkill school districts.

She was a member of a number of clubs, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Welsh Gymanfa Ganu Society, the Cecilian Club, the American Contract Bridge League, and was an avid reader, quilter and cook.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Kevin Kearney and his wife, Kara, of Elysburg, Carolyn Kearney, of Harrisburg, David Kearney, of Shamokin, and Gerardo Guidiana Garcia, of Mexico; two grandchildren, Megan and Nathan Kearney; a brother, Frosty, and sister-in-law Marianne Peters, of Elysburg; a brother-in-law, Larry "Butch" Hummel; an aunt, Jane Whitley, of Shamokin, and her nephews Ross Peters and Quentin and Douglas Hummel.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Anne Hummel, on Nov. 12, 2002.

KEARNEY — Jane Blodwyn Kearney, 69, of 2335 Jackson St., Coal Township. A memorial funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mount Zion Welsh Congregational Church, 150 N. Grant St., with the Rev. Gerald Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in Shamokin Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mount Zion Welsh Congregational Church.
