BUTTE, Mont. — Robert "Bob" James Chuprinski passed away with his wife and children by his side at St. James Hospital in Butte, Mont., Monday, Dec. 16, 2013.

Born Oct. 1, 1952, he proudly grew up in Mount Carmel, Pa., and was affectionately known as "Chirp".

Bob graduated from Mount Carmel Area High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Temple University and a master's degree in public health administration from Penn State University.

On Oct. 26, 1985, he married Diane Marcinek, of Shamokin, Pa. The couple recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary.

In 1992, Bob moved to Butte, not only for his career with the Community Health Center, but also for the "lure" of fishing and the great outdoors. Bob was the chief executive officer of Flathead Valley Orthopedic Center in Kalispell. He also was proud to have worked in the Butte community at Rocky Mountain Clinic and Mercury Street Medical.

Bob's hobbies include fly fishing, camping and exploring the West. He loved all sports, especially the football teams of Penn State, Montana Grizzlies, Butte High Bulldogs and the Mount Carmel Area Tornadoes. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In March 2013, Bob was inducted into the Ed Romance Lower Anthracite Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his Mount Carmel Area High School football honors. He also played college football at Temple University.

Bob dearly loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Diane Chuprinski; children, Patrick Francis Chuprinski and Anne Elizabeth Chuprinski; a brother David and wife, Patty, of Muncy, Pa.; a sister-­in-­law Barbara and her husband, Al Golden, of Shamokin, Pa; his uncle, Clem Karlovich, of Catawissa, Pa.; a sister-­in-­law, Denice and husband, Tom Taylor, of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother-­in-­law, Matt Marcinek and his wife, Lisa, of Great Falls; a brother­-in-­law Michael Marcinek and his wife, Daphne, of Monroe, Conn.; nephews and nieces include Jeff and Annette Chuprinski, Dana, Kelsi and Mariah Chuprinski, Treston and Trevin Taylor, Justin and Ashley Marcinek, and cousins dear to his heart.

Bob was blessed to have many cherished friends in the Coal Region of Pennsylvania and in Montana.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis "Frank" Joseph Chuprinski; his mother, Cecelia Teresa Karlovich, and his brother Joseph.

CHUPRINSKI — Robert "Bob" James Chuprinski, 61, of Butte, Mont. Services are planned for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21,2013 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Butte, Mont. At a future date, a Mass of Celebration will be held in Mount Carmel, Pa. Internment of ashes will be at the All Saints Cemetery. Axelson Alternative Cremation, of Butte, Mont., is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the Butte Emergency Food Bank, St. Ann's Catholic Church or St. James Healthcare Foundation, all of Butte, Mont.
