April 21, 1958 - February 5, 2014
Jeff was born in Atlanta, GA on April 21, 1958 to Constance Upchurch Sanders and the late Thomas Jefferson Sanders, Sr. In 1976, he graduated from Lakeside High School in Atlanta. Jeff was a proud 1981 graduate of the University of Georgia with a BBA degree in Business Management. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity whose brothers have remained his closest friends.
Shortly after graduating from Georgia, Jeff began a distinguished career in the landscape industry building two landscape contracting companies that accomplished award winning work. His customers and professional peers always enjoyed working with him knowing that the finished product would be beautiful and well done.
An avid lifelong Dawgs' fan, Jeff loved college football and Leesville High School football and volleyball. Fourteen years on Hyco Lake, hunting and fishing, gardening, country music, golden retrievers and naps on Sunday afternoons during the NASCAR races were some of his happiest moments. During football season, without exception, Saturdays began with ESPN's Game Day and no interruptions were allowed during the Georgia game. Jeff was an active member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he has served as deacon and on several committees.
Above all else, Jeff was, quite simply a family man that loved being home with his wife, children and dog surrounding him. He loved to watch Thomas and Sara play sports even lugging his chemo "fanny pack" to football and volleyball games. He drove the boat for hours while they skied, wakeboarded and fished and loved when their friends were either with us on the water or by the fireplace on the terrace.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lynne Temple Sanders; his children who adored him, Thomas Jefferson Sanders, III and Sara McNeill Sanders; his mother, Connie Sanders; his sister and her husband, Susan and Tim O'Bryan; his sister and her husband, Kathy and David Carr; his sister-in-law Jane Temple; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Jefferson Sanders, Sr.
The family would like to say a special thanks to UNC Hospital oncology staff and ICU staff as they cared for him just as they would have cared for their own family as well as Hospice of Wake County William M. Dunlap Center for Caring. The family is also most grateful for the loving multitude of friends that have rallied around them over the last several years with meals, cards, texts, fundraiser, visits, laughs and tears and most importantly prayer.
The family will receive visitors at their home on 8017 Pony Pasture Ct., Raleigh, NC Friday evening, February 7, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 in the evening.
A service of worship and celebration of Jeff's life will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church at 2:00 on Saturday, February 8, 2014.
