CWO-4 Larry M. Starnes, USMC Retired

September 13,1945-July 23,2014


Larry M. Starnes, 68, passed away with his loving family by his side on July 23, 2014 at Rex Hospital.

He was very active with Greystone Baptist Church, Raleigh. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 22 years, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He held the position of drill instructor, C130 load master, and maintenance officer. Larry received numerous accommodations while in service. He was an avid hunter and loving daddy, husband, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Starnes; granddaughter, Jessica Brown; furbabies, Brass Babe and Gracie. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Diane Metz-Starnes; mother, Mary Christine Starnes; children, Thomas E. Gagne and wife, Candie, James and wife, Debi, Marianne and husband, Steve and Maurice Starnes; sisters; Carolyn Johnson and Kay Bacot; grandchildren, Matthew Brown and wife, Kristina, Paige Gagne Cangilla and husband, Michael, Elizabeth Gagne, and Johnathon Gagne; great-grandchild, Isabella M. Cangilla; furbaby, Bridgette.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Greystone Baptist Church with military honors. Burial in Arlington National cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to in his honor.
