Mark Stanton McNiff

Mark Stanton McNiff, 45, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly at home on February 3. Mark was a beloved father, brother, son, and friend. He was an accomplished bluegrass musician, antique and art collector, and world explorer. Mark had an adventuresome spirit and enjoyed hiking, spelunking and traveling domestically and abroad.
The son of Miles McNiff and Jean Stanton, Mark grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and attended The McCallie School ('85). He graduated with a degree in English from the University of Vermont ('89). After receiving his bachelor's degree, Mark held positions at Harvard University, North Carolina State University, Peopleclick, Affiliated Computer Systems, and most recently Headway Corporation in Raleigh.
Survivors include his daughter, Paden McNiff of Mill Valley, California. He is also survived by his father Miles F. McNiff III of Chattanooga, Tennessee, his brother Miles F. McNiff IV of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark is also survived by the mother of his daughter and former wife of nine years, Michelle Godard Terrell, of Mill Valley, California. Mark was preceded in his death by his mother Jeanne Stanton McNiff and his grandparents, Miles F. McNiff, Jr and Grace N. McNiff of Waterbury, Connecticut, and Robert Mark Stanton and Gwen Stanton of Rock Hill, S.C. A memorial will be held at a later date.
