Whitney Richardson Irwin of Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, died on September 29, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara, and a son, Robert, and his wife, Jennifer and four grandchildren, Hadley, Serena, Nicholas, and Henry of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by three sisters and their husbands, Joan and Ross Farquharson of Annandale, Virginia; Lori and Alan Goelzer of Durham, N.H.; and Susan and Steve Lamoree of LaHonda, California. He is survived by 27 nieces and nephews.
Whit was born January 18, 1933 to the late Virginia and Robert Irwin of Garden City, New York. He graduated from Garden City High School and Rutgers University. He also attended graduate school at New York University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Whit had a thirty-five year career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and retired as Vice President before relocating to Fearrington Village from Westfield, New Jersey.
A service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2013, 1:00 PM, at The Chapel of the Cross, Franklin Street, Chapel Hill.
