A true American hero, Joseph Burton "Burt" Peeler, 94, of 67 Stadley Rough Rd, Danbury, husband of Adele (Garavel) Peeler, died at Winder Health Care, Winder, GA on Friday, January 10th. Peeler was born on Nov 4, 1919 in Baltimore, MD. He attended DHS and was 1938 Co-Captain of the football team. He served in the US Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. His battalion helped to liberate the Nazi concentration camp in Nordhausen, Germany and he was decorated with a purple heart and a bronze star. He worked for 50+ years as custom home builder in the Danbury area. In addition to his wife of 70 years, Adele, he will be missed by his daughter, Nancy Remond and her husband, Jean of Danbury, CT; Burt's son, Thomas Peeler and his wife, Laura, of Hoschton, GA; his seven grandchildren, and his seven great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Lawson Funeral Home of Hoschton, GA and will be held privately.
