Kelly, Henry T.
Henry Thomas Kelly, 87 of Brookfield passed away on April 1, 2014 at Masonicare at Newtown, after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Maureen A. (Carton) Kelly, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Born on June 28, 1926 in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late John and Frances Cleary Kelly. Henry was a graduate of PS 16 and Halstead School, both in Yonkers, NY. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the World War II and again during the Korean conflict. Upon completing his military service, he worked for the New York Central Railroad in New York City, where he met his future bride. Henry received his undergraduate degree from Iona College, in New Rochelle, New York and, later his master's degree from Western Connecticut University in Danbury. After living in Yonkers, NY, Henry and Maureen moved with their five children to Donegal Town, Ireland for several years. Upon returning from Ireland, the family enjoyed living at Candlewood Shores, Brookfield. Henry and Maureen attended St. Joseph's Church in Brookfield and were fortunate to make many wonderful lifelong friends during their years as part of the parish. Henry enjoyed singing in the St. Joseph's choir and performing in the annual minstrel show. During this time, he worked as a manager at American Can Corporation in Greenwich, CT. After retiring, Henry and Maureen traveled the world and spent many happy times at their home in Sarasota, FL and visiting their children and friends in New England during the summer months. In addition to his wife, Maureen, Henry is survived by his five children: Stephen Kelly and his wife, Nancy, of Northport, NY; Maureen Murphy and her husband, Randall of Newburyport, MA; Shane Kelly and his wife, Carrie of Rockville, MD; Tara Riccardi and her husband, Christopher of Newtown and Brian Kelly of Woodbury. Also surviving are his eight beloved grandchildren: Brynn Kelly, Patrick Riccardi, Daniel Kelly, Jack Murphy, Shane Kelly, Caroline Kelly, Kevin Riccardi and Megan Riccardi. Henry leaves behind his brother, John F. Kelly, Esq. of Fonda, NY; and four nephews and nieces; John Collins of NY; Mary Ann Collins of NY; Susan Jacoby Stoker of MI; and William Jacoby of MD. Henry was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Collins, Julia Jacoby and Kathleen Kelly. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Masonicare at Newtown for their kind and loving attention to Henry during the last three years of his life. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown Friday April 4th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Bethel on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
