Lena Ruth (Ruthie) Larson, 77 died peacefully in her home in Gaylordsville on Tuesday June 24, surrounded by her family. She lost her almost three year battle with cancer after being a breast cancer survivor of twenty years. She was the wife of Edwin Larson. She was born at home in New Milford, January 4, 1937 a daughter of the late Reid and Lillian (Jennings) Hungerford.
A resident of Gaylordsville for almost sixty years, she was a friend to all and a believer that laughter was the best medicine. She was a former president and charter member of the Gaylordsville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Besides her husband of fifty eight years, she is survived by her daughters, Vera and her husband William Dinneen Jr of Cornwall Bridge, Ramona Stumpf of New Milford and Sonia Larson and her companion Valerie Warren of Daniel Island, SC; two sisters, Jane Fitch and her husband George of New Milford and Doris Cuddy of Carlsbad New Mexico; two brothers Robert Hungerford and his wife Lois of New Milford and Donald Hungerford of Deerfield Beach, FL. She also leaves her grandchildren Heather, Patrick and Garrick Dinneem and his wife Beth, Laura, Allison, Marissa and Iris Stumpf as well as one great granddaughter Willa Pohl and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her brothers Marvin and James Hungerford and son-in-law Ward Stumpf Jr.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Diebold Cancer Center of New Milford Hospital. Special thanks to Jam Roberts RN and Dr. Robert Cooper as well as her primary care physician of many years Dr. Jeffrey Tyler, for all their care and compassion throughout her battle.
Funeral service will be held Saturday June 28 at 1:00pm at the Colonial Funeral Home, Park Lane Rd, New Milford.
Friends and relatives will be received one hour before the service.
In Lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Diebold Cancer Center at the New Milford Hospital or to the in her memory
