MILFORD - Barbara V. Failing (Apple Dumpling Barb) of Milford passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov., 20, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was born in Norristown, Pa., daughter of the late John Mackay and Laura V. Hoffman Mackay on June 27, 1938. She graduated from Bridgeport High School, Class of 1956, Bridgeport, Pa. She retired from Sussex Company after 32 years. She was a longtime Charter member of the Milford Moose, and member of the Milford VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Many people knew her for her Apple Dumplings and crafts at the Milford Farmers Market. She was preceded in death by her son, Wylie E. Failing IV; and her granddaughter, Wendy Ann Lankford-Masten; and her siblings, Jack, Gary and Patty Mackay. She is survived by longtime companion, Walter Curtis Bryan; her children, Laurie Layton and husband, Keith Layton, Sandy Lankford and companion, Tom Phillips, Robin Barnes, John Failing; her step mother, June Hesser; brothers, William (Hugh) Mackay, Robert (Bobby) MacKay and Douglas Mackay; two step-brothers, Richard and Neal Mackay; as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the Milford Moose Center. Burial will be private at the Lincoln Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the funeral home to help defray funeral cost.
