DOVER - Harry Winfield Fillman passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. He was born on March 17, 1926, in Pottstown, Pa., son of the late Harry E. and Jennie M. (Horn) Fillman. He was preceded in death by wife, Marian J. (Johnson) Fillman; and stillborn brother, James M. Fillman. He received his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University, in 1949, where he met his future wife on a blind date. He received his Master's degree from Columbia University in 1964. The center of his life was his family. His vast work experience included Assoc. Professor & Base Rep., for Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Dover AFB; Chairman Ind. Eng. Dept., University of New Haven, Conn.; Cost and Budget Manager at M & M Candies; V.P. of Service & Finance at Brewster Ideal Chocolate Co., and Systems Engineer at Western Union. He supported many non-profit and social organizations, including the VFW Post 3238, Camden, Del., Lions of Dover, Delmarva Red Cross, American Legion, I.I.E., S.M.E., Boy Scouts of America and the Men's Club of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 in WWII and 1950-1951 in the Korean War, as Shipboard Postmaster. He is survived by three sons, James Fillman and wife, Cheryl, Jerry Fillman and wife, Barbara, and Harry S. Fillman and wife, Bernadette; daughter, Jenny Quell and husband, Garry; sister, Roseann Thomas and husband, Joseph; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A service of family remembrances will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends are invited to gather from 4 p.m. until service time. A Committal service will be held promptly at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
