McWilliams, Jr., 82 DOVER - James A. McWilliams, Jr. away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. Mr. McWilliams was born September 21, 1931 in Dover, Delaware to the late James A. McWilliams Sr. and Mary Watts McWilliams. Mr. McWilliams started out working with his father at McWilliams Barber Shop as a youth and operated a barber shop in downtown Dover for 61 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover. Additionally, he was a retired volunteer fireman from the Dover Fire Department, a past Master of the Masonic Union Lodge #7 AF & AM where he was recently awarded his 50 year pin in a private ceremony in his home. Mr. McWilliams was a true outdoorsman. In his lifetime he enjoyed bird hunting with his beloved english setter and surf fishing at Delaware beaches. In his spare time he was an avid reader. Mr. McWilliams was also a gifted musician. He played the piano, banjo, accoustic and electric guitar, bass fiddle, harmonica and had a wonderful singing abiilty. He loved to play golf and was a member of Garrison's Lake Golf and Country Club for many years. In his lifetime, he bowled on a competitive league and loved to spend time with his friends shooting pool and playing cards. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Bilderback in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Marie Erdle McWilliams of Dover; three daughters, Vicki Stephens and her husband John of Havre de Grace, MD, Julie Ellwanger and her husband Virgil of Millsboro, DE and Laura (Laurie) Howard and her husband Brian of Dover. Additonally he is survived by a niece, Marsha Bilderback of St. Louis, MO, his grandchildren, Jessica Simmons, Stephen Simmons, Rachel Jackson, Rachel Stephens, John Stephens III, Leslie DiPietro, James Case IV, Patrick Spence and Ray A. Bryant and his great grandchildren, Chandler Blake, Maggie Simmons, Alexander Jackson, A.J. DiPietro, Nathan DiPietro, Isabella Perez and Lillian Howard. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 14th in the west room of the community center at Westminster Village, 1175 McKee Road, Dover. Reception begins at 1:00 p.m. and the memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the , 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
