DOVER - Marion Latshaw Boon passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 in her home. Marion was born December 11, 1934 in Reading, Pa. to Burriss and Marion Cooper Latshaw. She graduated from Hampton Va. High School as Class Salutatorian although she actually tied for Valedictorian, but the top honor went to the boy. She was a Chatham University graduate in 1956 with a major in Chemistry then attended Purdue University as a chemistry graduate teaching assistant. She married Donald Boon while at Purdue and had their first son Richard. They then moved in order for Don to continue graduate studies at Albany Medical College. While in Albany she had their second son David. They moved to Orchard Park, N.Y. where she became involved with programs for children in Lackawanna. She taught in a church sponsored community center, the Head Start program and first grade repeaters in the Lackawanna school system. During this time and going forward she was very involved with the Presbyterian Church where she was elected as a Deacon then as Ruling Elder. After the boys were in college and a move to Olean, N.Y., she became a full-time volunteer at the public library and studied tax preparation becoming an Enrolled Agent of the IRS. She also rang in the bell choir and was president of the Presbyterian Women of Western New York. She moved with her husband to Dover when he took a teaching position at Wesley College and she taught a Freshman Seminar at Wesley as well. Local activity included working with The Presbyterian Church of Dover as church treasurer and head of the Sunday school programs. She mentored in the Dover School System at North Elementary after being a volunteer with the HOSTS program at Booker T. Washington Elementary. She also served as a member of the oversight committee for the MHDC, Home Repair Project. She enjoyed going to the beach and spending time there with her friends and grandchildren. Marion was a great friend to all who knew her, supporting them and appreciating the support they gave her. For the last two years she has valiantly fought colon cancer which was complicated somewhat by the fact she was also dealing with Parkinson's disease for the last 20 years. Marion was predeceased by her father and mother; her step father, Jesse Bloxom; her step-mother, Martha Blew Latshaw; her step sister, Betty Lamoureux; her sister, Patricia Hoskinson; and her half-sister, Roberta Bloxom.
