Jeffers CHURCH HILL, Md. - Morton Benjamin Jeffers (aka Bill Knights), was born July 2, 1923 in Millington, Md., to the late Ethel Jeffers. He departed this life on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Queen Anne County Hospice, Centreville, Md. Bill was educated in the Kent County school system and attended Garnett High School in Chestertown, Md. He joined the United States Army in order to defend the interest of his country during World War II. He later married Delores T. Kennedy of Church Hill, Md. He worked several different jobs before his employment of more than 30 years as a truck driver with Bennett and Cohey Salvage of Chestertown, Md. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and gardening was a large part of that enjoyment. For many years he maintained a vegetable garden but after the vegetable garden era, the yard became a haven of many beautiful flowers and shrubbery, this was his passion. He joined Bethel AME Church of Church Hill, Md. and became an active and dedicated member of the Usher and Trustee Boards. Bill loved to usher and did so faithfully until health issues intervened, but "the will to do" still remained. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Delores Jeffers; and six children, Jean Bond (Kenneth) of Philadelphia, Pa., Morton David Jeffers (Janice) of Chestertown, Md., Donald Jeffers (Edna) of Glassboro, N.J., Hilda "Pansy" Jackson (Darrell) of Smyrna, Del., Gordon Jeffers (Brenda) of Clayton, Del., Ethel Kilson of Denton, Md. He was preceded in death by one great grandchild, Christopher Bond; and survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews, one sister-in-law, one god-daughter; and a host of cousins, friends and church family. The service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 with a viewing two hours prior to service at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 208 Agnes Lane, Church Hill, MD 21628.
