HARRINGTON - Richard A. "Popeye" Moyer passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Milford Hospice Center. He was born to the late Raymond Moyer and Marcella Wenrich. Popeye was drafted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was an over the road truck driver for many years. He first started with Jimmy Hudson, then drove for A.J. Williams, and also D&B Transportation. He also worked for National Concrete, and most recently, he worked at the paddocks in Harrington and Dover for the Delaware Harness Racing. When he was not hard at work, Popeye enjoyed watching football, harness racing, golfing, fishing off the pier in Lewes, and demolition derbies. In his younger days, he looked forward to driving in the derbies every year. Popeye also loved helping his family with farming. He enjoyed helping with the beef cattle and goats. He also loved cutting grass on his John Deere. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Popeye was a die hard Republican and never bashful about it. He enjoyed attending Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington, and was a former member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Robbins (Cole Haggerty) of Milford, Dana (Norman) Barlow of Harrington; sister, Melrose Salmons of Harrington; five grandchildren, Michael Robbins, Brooke Barlow, Maura Robbins, Rylee Barlow, and Delayna Barlow; two great-grandchildren, Kaydance Robbins, and Isabella Carpenter. Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Hollywood Cemetery.
