CRISFIELD - Lester M. Crockett died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at his home. Born on Tangier Island, Va. Jan. 8, 1928, he was a son of the late Andrew Aires and Priscilla Wheatley Crockett. His wife of 56 years, Joan "Jo" Sterling Crockett, preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 2002. Mr. Crockett was a driver and supervisor for Holsum, Star Bakery, Sunbeam and Schmidt bread companies working 37 years before his retirement in 1990. He also served in the US Navy during World War II with the rank of Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class. He was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, American Legion Post #16, and the VFW Post #8274. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, playing cards, and going to Gordon's. He is survived by his granddaughter, Dawn Leslie Crockett of Crisfield; his daughter-in-law, Dawn M. Crockett of Crisfield; a brother, Stanford Crockett of N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; two special nephews, Rodger Daugherty of Florida and Andy Crockett of Westover; his caregivers, Joy, Kathy, Karen, Nancy, Diane, Sherree, Angie and Donna; and two special neighbors, Andrea Pieta and Nelson Sheppard. Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Lester M. "Les" Crockett, Jr. on July 15, 2002; two brothers, Andrew "Shad" Crockett and Charlie Crockett; and three sisters, Mina Rae Daugherty, Virginia Bowland and Nell Pruitt. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. Rev. Steve Willing and Mr. Rodger Daugherty officiated. Urn interment was private in Asbury Cemetery.
