MURRAY - John J.- of Rockville Centre on September 28th, 2013 in his 88th year. Born on April 30, 1925. Beloved husband of the late Winifred, John married Winifred Feeney on April 9, 1950. Loving father of Jean McElwee (Michael), John Jr. (Laurie) and Ann Marie Peterson. Cherished grandfather of Michael Jr, Maureen, John III, Mary Elizabeth, Timothy, Christian, Julia and Katherine.Adored great grandfather of Madeline, Michael III, Thomas and Jillian. Proud WW II and U.S. Navy Veteran. John entered the U.S. Navy on June 29, 1942 at the age of 17 where he served his country until May 9, 1946 when he left the Navy at the age of 21. On May 10, 1946 John became a member of the Plumbers Local #2 where he would be a member for 67 years. A rank and file member, he worked and was elected to be president of his union New York City #2 Plumbers and later an International Representative of the UA Plumbers and Pipe Fitters in Washington D.C. Familywill receive friends Monday and Tuesday, 2-5 and 7-9 pm. at the Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SSPKWY) Wantagh, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre, 11 am. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. www.osheafuneral.com
