Ken Stacey Notice
STACEY - Ken, 86, who spent his life as a Teacher, Counselor, Coop Coordinator and Director of Vocational, Technical and Industrial Arts Education in the East Meadow Public Schools died August 11, 2014 of congestive heart failure. Mr. Stacey opened the first Industrial Arts Shop in East Meadow at the Meadowlawn School in 1951 and subsequently planned and opened the shops at the Woodland Jr. High School in 1955. He was appointed Coop Coordinator for the Work Study Programs in 1962 and became President of the State Vocational Industrial Coordinators Association in 1965. In 1970, Mr. Stacey was appointed Director for the district. Ken earned his Bachelor's Degree at Buffalo State College and held a Master's Degree from Hofstra University and Queen's College. Mr. Stacey was an Adjunct Professor and Vocational Education Instructor at New York University, City College and New York Tech since 1968. Mr. Stacey was a veteran who served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force Air Transport Command. During the summers of the early 60's, he set up College programs for the Air Force at 33 remote Radar Bases throughout the country so that young Airmen could continue to pursue an education. His greatest love was teaching which he finally retired from in 1995 after 44 years. Ken had served as the President of the East Meadow Alumni Association since 1986 until 2010 which he considered one of the greatest joys of his life. He was a loving husband of his late wife Alice "Bunny" of 57 years, father to his daughter Karen and sons Scott and Rene, father-in-law to Russ, Joanne and Monika, and loving grandfather to his five grandchildren Jonathan, David, Christine, Markus and Daniel. Funeral Services will be held at the O'Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, NY. Visiting Thursday August 14th from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. Services on Friday August 15th at 10am at the Funeral Home. Interment directly following at Pinelawn Cemetery. Reception will be held at Sea Haven Restaurant, Lindenhurst, NY.
