MURPHY - William R., 82, died on December 8th at his home inAlpharetta, Georgia after anextended illness. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn, and four children, Kevin Murphy ofGeorgia, Noreen Snellman of Georgia, Dennis Murphy of Pennsylvania, Lynne Gere of New York, and eight grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister,Mildred Murphy Croft. Mr.Murphy graduated with a batchelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a master's degree from New York University and received his Professional Engineering license from the State of New York . He was employed by Grumman Aircraft Company and was instrumental in the design and development of the A-6Intruder attack aircraft, and later the Gulfstream executive business jets with Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation in Savannah, Georgia . In retirement, he was active in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock, GA and recently with St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell,GA. Family will reeive friends at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA on Tuesday, December 11 from 5–9 p.m. Repose will be at the Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home, 20 Lincoln Avenue , Rockville Centre , NY on Thursday, December 13 from 5-9 p.m. and Friday December 14 from 5-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 129 Broadway, Hicksville, NY . Interment at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, the familyrequests that donations be made to the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative, www.sarcomahelp.org.
