Anthony "Tony," 91, of Upper Saddle River, NJ died peacefully surrounded by family on February 25, 2013. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over sixty-three years, Carolyn. When he met her, he knew she was "the one," and even after all these years still thought she was the most beautiful woman, affectionately calling her "Sweet Pea." Anthony was the youngest of nine children. He grew up in Waldwick, NJ, a town that held many fond memories. He was an Army veteran of World War II, being the proud recipient of the Bronze Star for meritorious service. When stationed in Colorado, he worked with military mules and attributed them to saving his life when deployed to Le Havre, France before ultimately facing combat in Germany and Austria. Shortly after his return from service, Anthony started his own construction company, Orchard Properties, LLC, building homes and commercial buildings throughout Bergen County for almost fifty years. But even with the success he attained, his family always came first. He enjoyed his retirement spending weekends with Carolyn at their homes in Manahawkin, NJ and Delhi, NY. As he always said, "We had a lot of good times." He will be sadly missed by his family. Anthony is survived by his daughters Joan Gundersen of Mahwah, Carole Grisafi of Woodcliff Lake, and Nancy Smith of Mahwah and his grandchildren, Angela Gundersen Calvey and her husband Sean Calvey of Monroe, NY, Richard Grisafi of Woodcliff Lake, and Michael Grisafi of Woodcliff Lake, and his great granddaughter, Caroline Calvey, of Monroe, NY. Also survived by his sisters-in-law, Ann Esposito of Saddle River and Victoria Gudger of Toms River, and many nieces and nephews; predeceased by his brother-in-law Jerry Miccinillii. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10 AM at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ. Entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. Memorial donations may be made to the Upper Saddle River Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 378 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458.
