A service for township resident Dr. Charles E. Connant will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road., Westfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield.

Dr. Connant, 93, died April 13.

Born and raised in Athens, Greece, he settled in Jersey City in 1950. Dr. Connant earned his graduate degree in internal medicine at New York University Bellevue Medical Center, and his degree in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania.

He served his straight internship in medicine at the Jersey City Medical Center, and served a rotating internship at Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Neptune. He did his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Bellevue Medical Center and at St. Francis Hospital, both in New York City.

He was an associate of H.B. Wager and E.G. Waters at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City.

He served as assistant director of obstetrics and gynecology at Christ Hospital in Jersey City. Since 1977, he had been a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. He served as a fellow in cervical dysplasia and pathology at Brookdale Medical Center in New York City.

As a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American College of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Connant also co-authored "Minimal Access Gynecology" in 1995.

Dr. Connant is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Pamela and Susan; a son, Charles Jr.; two sisters, Anthoussa Constantinidis and Lily Taglis; and two grandchildren.
