Douglas N., 95, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014. Born and raised in Pottstown, PA, he resided in Fair Lawn since 1946.
After graduating from Pottstown High School in 1936, Douglas attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute which is now a part of Penn State University. He proudly served with the U. S. Navy on the U.S.S. Lamar during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific, American Theater and Victory Medal while overseas. An involved member of his community, he was a member and past president of the Fair Lawn Seniors, member and past president of the Parents Committee for Athletics, member and past Grand Master of the Whitehead Lodge in Cliffside Park and Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster of Troop 215 in Fair Lawn. He was also a member of the American Watchmakers Association. Doug had many interests including Mets baseball, car repair, fishing, golfing, gardening and clock and watch repair.
Prior to retiring, he was employed with Plastic Mold Tool & Die in East Rutherford, NJ and previously with Viking Tool & Machine Corps in Belleville, NJ and Doehler Die Casting Co. in Pottstown, PA.
Douglas was married for 74 years to the late Lillian F. (Stremba) Focht who passed away on May 3, 2014. He is also survived by his children Dennis Focht, Douglas Focht, Jr. and Christine "Crick" Catalucci; his grandchildren Jonathan Focht, Eric Focht and Elise Durante; his great-grandchildren, Peter Douglas, Iza, Fantino, and Claudia; and by sisters, Evelyn Yearger, June Stremba, Grace Burkett and Betty Smoker.
The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday June 28, 2014, 11 AM-12 noon with a service to follow at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, 201-797-3500.
