Ernest Alfred, Jr. "Ernie", 91 years, on August 22, 2013, passed away peacefully at the New Jersey Veterans Home in Paramus. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Dorie) Agnes Abrahamsen. They were married 65 years when she passed away in 2008. Ernie was born in 1921 to Emelia Mimler and Ernest Alfred Swanson Sr. and lived in Carnegie, PA. Predeceased by his sister, Paula and brothers, Earl and Thomas. A graduate of College of St. Mary in Winona, MN. with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1943, he served as a Lieutenant (JG) on the USS Stribling in the Atlantic Fleet during WWII. Ernie thought of his service in the Navy as the greatest honor. He resided in Glen Rock from 1961-1986 and was employed at Stepan Chemical Co. in Maywood until his retirement in 1986. He was a distinguished member of the Maywood Rotary Club and served as president, 1965-66. He received the "Service Above Self Award" in 1982. Ernie and his bride Dorie then moved to Ocala, FL. in 1986 to retire and enjoy golf and life. Survivors include his sons; David and Mark and daughters; Mary Ellen, Nancy Reimold and Margaret Shapiro. Ernie has 11 grandchildren; Erik, Chris, Joelle, Joseph, Amanda, Matthew, Amelia, Monica, Allison, Peter and Carolyn and 11 great grandchildren; Jacob, Lily, Kai, Luca, Jonathan, Greta, Ava, Finnegan, Declan, Iona and Cormac.
