BROITMAN
Florence "Flo," passed away unexpectedly at A.O. Fox Hospital, in Oneonta, NY on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
Flo was born in New Haven, CT to Morris and Yetta (Sandomir) Alpert.
She served her country in the US Navy during World War II. Florence was she was part of the first Naval class to be trained as a Neuropsychiatric Technician and was responsible for an entire psychiatric ward at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She held the rank of Pharmacist's Mate.
After The Navy, she met and married Harvey Broitman, who was also a pharmacist. They lived in the Passaic-Clifton area until the early 70's. Florence was very much involved in ORT, Hadassah, B'nai B'rith, and the various local hospital auxiliaries. She enjoyed organizing and running charity art show so much, that she opened and ran VIP Gallery in Passaic.
Once she relocated to Liberty, NY, Flo opened Stone Chapel Antiques. In 1979, Harvey, the love of her life, passed away. At that time, she worked as a Unit Secretary in Community General Hospital.
She Moved to Coconut Creek FL. She moved to Oneonta, NY, where she worked at Planned Parenthood. Florence was a member of Temple Beth El and operated the Temple gift shop.
For a number of years, Flo resided in Richmond VA, to be near her sons, but returned to Oneonta, NY.
Florence is survived by her beloved children, Marla (Lewis) Calabro, Stephanie (Ronald) Ring, Jeffrey Broitman, and Andrew Broitman, sister Alice (Marvin) Eisenberg, sister-in-Law Peggy Greenstein. Grandchildren Hilary Ring, Jacob Broitman, and Melanie Calabro.
Services at Jewish Memorial Chapel, 841 Allwood Rd. Clifton, NJ Today at 12 Noon. Interment at Beth Israel Cemetery Woodbridge, NJ.
