A memorial service for township resident Dr. Gerald N. Wachs will be held Friday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 W. 76th St., New York, N.Y.
Dr. Wachs, 76, died Nov. 8 in New York. He was a resident of the township for more than 20 years.
In his nearly 20 years at Merck and Schering-Plough as senior associate medical director, he was responsible for the Food and Drug Administration's approval of more than 20 new drug applications.
Dr. Wachs subsequently ran a dermatology and cosmetic surgery practice for 18 years in Millburn and Summit. He was also a past president of the New Jersey Dermatologic Society.
He served for seven years on the Millburn Board of Education, and as president of the Millburn Board of Health. He became a published author in 2012, co-writing the standard bibliography for playwright Tom Stoppard. He was a member of the Sherlock Holmes society, The Baker Street Irregulars, in New York.
Dr. Wachs is survived by three daughters, Sharon, Deborah and Judith, and a son, Joel, with Glorya; a brother, Robert, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by Gail Postal, his companion of 19 years.
