Grace Frances (nee Barbier), 81, of Franklin Lakes passed away on February 16, 2014.
Born in Newark, she lived in Wayne before moving to Franklin Lakes 36 years ago. She graduated from Newark State Teacher's College in 1955 where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree.
As a school teacher, Grace taught for 15 years in Chatham Borough and 28 years for the Township of Wayne. In her 43 years teaching, she always taught the 4th and 5th grades. She was a member of the New Jersey Retired Education Association, Bergen County Retired Education Association and the Wayne Retirees.
Her beloved late husband, John, of 42 ½ years, was Director of Special Education in Montville Township for many years. He retired in 1995 and passed away on January 20, 2000. Although Grace was never blessed with children, she was blessed with nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Grace loved the Opera and reading biographies about operatic composers. She enjoyed going to lectures about opera and visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild and also a 30 year subscriber to the Metropolitan Opera.
Grace loved her family very much. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge and loved traveling to Italy.
She was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Franklin Lakes.
Beloved wife of the late John M. Tanzola.
Cherished daughter of the late Charles and Angelina (nee Muscolino) Barbier.
Dear sister of Dr. Joseph A. Barbier of Long Valley and pre-deceased by Nina Kemp (2004), Peter Barbier (1997) and Angela Moran (2006).
Loving aunt of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, 787 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes.
Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
The family requests donations be made in Grace's memory to Boys Town, 200 Flanagan Blvd., P.O. Box 8000, Boys Town, NE 68010.
