Henry F., of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Westport, NY, passed away August 23, 2013.
Harry was the beloved husband of Elizabeth, father of Kathryn Danzeisen (Dave), and grandfather of David Danzeisan Jr. and Summer Paige Danzeisen. He was born in Kearny, NJ, to Catherine and John Major Cox, and grew up the youngest of four brothers in Nutley, NJ, where he graduated from Nutley High. He was a WWII veteran US Army Air Corps B-17 pilot who, following his enlistment, flew 35 missions over Germany, loyally bringing his nine man crew home safely each flight. He was awarded the Air Medal, five Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism in the service of his country. President Putin of Russia awarded him a medal of honor for his efforts on behalf of the Russian people while a military ally during the war.
Following the war, he attended NYU, married and became a General Motors franchise Chevrolet dealer in Fair Lawn, NJ. He lived with his family in Wyckoff, NJ, for 30 years, and upon his retirement moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, where he was an avid golfer. In 1987, Harry and Betty bought a summer home in Westport, NY, where he re-engaged his love for flying by purchasing the Westport Airport. Harry encouraged a love of aviation, had many, many friends, and supported community involvement at the airport, annually hosting the "Valley of the Giants" air show on the 4th of July.
He was predeceased by his loved and loving daughter, Nancy, in 1994.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held at noon on the 4th of July, 2014 at the Westport Airport.
