Ildo Emilio, PhD, 81 of Paramus, New Jersey, passed away at home surrounded by his family on September 6, 2012. Beloved husband of Noussy Pensa (nee Nessia Abikzir). Devoted father of Laury Pensa (married to Lisa LaFronz) of Allendale, NJ, and Marianne Pensa (married to Marc Spangenberg) of New Orleans, LA. Loving grandfather of Gaby and Jackie Spangenberg, and Kyle and Logan Pensa.
Born on March 8, 1931 in Alexandria, Egypt of Italian/Greek descent, he was fluent in six languages. After receiving a degree in chemical technology and engineering at the University of Alexandria (formerly Farouk University), Egypt, he began his long career as a textile chemical engineer in Egypt (Associated Cotton Ginners of Egypt) and France (as Technical Director at the Flixecourt Plant at Saint Freres Confection SA). After moving to the US in 1959, he worked for 22 years for JP Stevens & Co., in New Jersey, as Director of Chemical and Process Development, during which time he obtained his M.S. from Columbia (1963) and Ph.D. from NYU (1973). He was the author of numerous technical publications and patents. His expertise in fabric dyeing and finishing led him to North Carolina in 1982, where he worked for Levi-Strauss & Co., (as Director of Research and Development). He culminated his career in San Juan del Rio, Mexico in 1995, where he worked for Manufacturas Kaltex, (as Manager of Research and Development), while enjoying Mexico's warmth, hospitality and sunshine. He retired in 2005.
Dr. Pensa was a member of the AATCC (Association of Textile, Chemists and Colorists, OVA (Old Victorians Association) and AAHA (Amicale Alexandrie Hier et Aujourdhui).
