Italo, 93, of Ortley Beach, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Montecorice, Italy, he came to the U.S. in 1935, residing in Paterson for over 50 years before moving to Ortley Beach 29 years ago. Italo was a member of Carpenters Local Union No. 15 in Hackensack for over 30 years. He proudly served in the Army during WW II. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and loved his opera. Spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him.
He was predeceased by his parents Eugenio and Filomena Catania and his eleven siblings. Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Elizabeth; two sons Eugene Catania and his wife Trudy and Richard Catania and his wife Toni; three grandchildren Julianne Guzik, Michael Catania, and Christie Catania; his cherished great grandchildren Gianna and Joseph; and many caring nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 100 Grant Ave., Seaside Heights. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.
