James Salvatore, 81, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Fair Lawn since 1967. James proudly served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He received a bachelor's degree in biology from Brooklyn College and went on to earn a Master's Degree in computer science from Farleigh Dickinson University. He was a parishioner of St. Anne R.C. Church in Fair Lawn.
Prior to retiring in 1995, he was a research chemist with Hoffmann La Roche in Nutley for thirty-six years. After retirement, Mr. Carlese volunteered with the Township of Saddle Brook to assist residents with tax preparation. Jim enjoyed chess and stamp and coin collecting. He was a scout master for his son's Boy Scout troop and a loyal fan at each of his children's sporting events. His favorite time was with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren and walking and talking to his dog Sandy (his beloved yorkie and the favorite child!).
Beloved husband of the late Natalie (Fucigna) Carlese. Loving and devoted father of Anthony and wife Cristina, James and wife Nelli and Mary Ann. Cherished grandfather of Isabella, Sofia, Sarah, Leo and Natalie. Dear brother of sisters Francis(dec.), Vera(dec.), Lilly and Mary. He is survived also by many loving nieces and nephews. He was an amazing dad and grandpa, who instilled in his children the true meaning of family. He always knew how to make you feel so welcome when you entered the room with a big smile and would say "give me a kiss." He will always be known for his easy sense of humor, his generous heart and his love of his family.
