John Anthony, 86, of Harrington Park on April 16, 2012.
Beloved husband of Eleonore for sixty years. Loving father to John, Maryanne, and Christina. Devoted grandfather of Anthony and Gregory Vagnini. Survived by brother Stanley. His older sister Marion and younger sister Eleanor predeceased him.
Mr. Godlewski was born in Jamaica, New York to John and Frances (nee Rudna) Godlewski. He served proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II; he was stationed in France and England and awarded a Purple Heart for a leg injury received in combat. A civil engineer, he was employed in Manhattan by the global consulting firm Parson Brinckerhoff Quade and Douglas for 35 years and then by URS Corporation, a leading provider of engineering, construction and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the world, for 5 years until retirement.
Funeral arrangements were directed by Becker Funeral Home; funeral mass was held at St. Anthony's in Northvale, NJ. The burial, at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, was attended by representatives of the U.S. Army who played taps and presented the flag to his wife in commemoration of years served.
