John J. III, of Wood-Ridge, passed away on July 3rd. He died at home with his family by his side. He was 66. Born in Jersey City, he moved to Wood-Ridge as a child. Upon graduating Wood-Ridge High School in 1967, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty before beginning a law enforcement career that spanned more than four decades.
He joined the Wood-Ridge Police Department in 1971 and rose through its ranks to become chief in 1986. After retiring the post in 2000, he worked as special assistant to the Bergen County prosecutor, as well as Director of the Narcotics Task Force. At the time of his death, he served as the Assistant Director of Security for the Bergen County Police Department. He was also a member and past president of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association.
He was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Dorothy (nee McCarthy) Frank, and a brother Thomas Frank.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda (nee Naclerio); his daughters Mary Kate Frank of New York, NY, and Karen Frank of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; his siblings Mary Ann Quince of Atlantic City, NJ, Kathleen Dabrowski of Califon, NJ, Margaret Hill of Kunkletown, PA, James Frank of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Theresa Frank of Bedminster, NJ, and Kevin Frank of Rio Rancho, NM.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11th at 11:30 AM at Assumption of Our Blessed Lady Church in Wood-Ridge. Burial following at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name to the Wounded Warrior Project would be greatly appreciated. www.woundedwarriorproject.org
