POMPTON LAKES — Services were held for John C. Lane, 80, of Monroe, formerly of this borough, who died on Friday, August 31, 2012.

Born in Long Island City, New York, the son of John F. and Edith (Tienken) Lane, he lived in Pompton Lakes, moving to Monroe 10 years ago. An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Lane earned his Master's Degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford. He was a member of the Paramus and Pompton Lakes Rotary Clubs, as well as the VFW and St. Mary's R.C. Church, both in Pompton Lakes.

Co-founder and Director of the Bobby Lane Scholarship Foundation for the past 20 years, Mr. Lane also served as St. Mary's basketball coach and was past president of the Pompton Lakes Republican Club. He was a community relations manager at United Water Company in Harrington Park, where he worked for 35 years before retiring.

"John was one of the nicest people you could meet," said Pompton Lakes Rotary Club Past President Kenneth Snell. "He was always upbeat and had only good things to say about others. John was always willing to help others whenever he could. He was a very special person and one that we always enjoyed being with. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him."

Mr. Lane is survived by his wife, Joan (Silbernagel), a son John C. Lane of Florida; daughters, Karen Kirby of Ramsey and Kimberly Lane of New York City; his brothers Richard of Idaho and David of California; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by his parents, and another son, Robert, in 1992.

Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Pompton Lakes. Arrangements were by Richards Funeral Home, 4 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale.
