ORADELL — Joseph L. Ennis Sr., a longtime resident of Oradell, died on Aug. 27.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (1948-1952) having served in the Korean War and in the historic battle of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. He was a member of the Oradell Police Department for 31 years, retiring as captain under the leadership of his brother Chief William R. Ennis.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivienne N. (Viola); his children, Joseph L. Ennis Jr. and wife Karen and Cathleen N. Goepel and husband Steve; his grandchildren, Kenzie, Ellie, Conor and Katie Goepel and Erin and Meghan Ennis; his siblings, Ed and wife Betty and Bob and wife Barbara; his sisters-in-law, Mary and Ida; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Margaret, Rose Delores, Richard, William, Lawrence and Roger.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 from the funeral home, then to St. Joseph's R.C. Church for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, with entombment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery.
