Juanita (nee Thompson), age 89, died September 17, 2012 at Englewood Hospital. The cause was septic shock.
Mrs. Strain was born October 20, 1922 in Danville, Illinois.
She held a B.S. degree from Purdue University and a Master's Degree from Columbia University. Her professional careeer was spent as an educator: she taught social studies at Wandell Elementary School in Saddle River, NJ. She also owned a successful business, managing the family's farmland.
Mrs. Strain was a longtime resident of Dumont. She was the second woman to serve on the town's Board of Education in the 1960's and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Among her many interests were reading, Broadway musicals, singing in the church choir, traveling the world, history and chocolate.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marrette Strain, and her sister, Winifred Woodward. Surviving are her four daughters: Dana Strain, Bonnie Strain, Errin Urfer and Niki Ceo, as well as ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.
Inurnment took place at Plainview Cemetery in Colfax, Indiana.
