BRADFORD
Leon, 86, of Pompton Plains, passed away on July 12, 2014.
The son of the late Leon and Susie Bradford, Leon was a resident of Pompton Plains since 1937. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII and was the retired Chief of the Morris County Park Police. Leon was a member of the following: the American Legion Post 242, Morris County Chiefs of Police Association, New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Fraternal Order of Police. In addition, Leon was a member of the Genesis Lodge #88, a 33rd degree member of the Valley of Northern New Jersey, and of the Salaam Shriners. He was also a deacon at The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains.
Leon loved nature and golf and was an avid NY Giants fan. He was a kind and compassionate person and was the loving husband of Josephine (nee Mignone) for 60 years. Together they enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the world.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine and 8 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Haight.
A funeral service will be held 10 AM Thursday, July 17 at The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, July 16 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. www.scanlanfuneral.com
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leon's memory to The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation would be greatly appreciated by his family.
