Maynard Baker of Little River S.C. age 78

RINGWOOD — Services were held for Maynard Baker, 78, of Little River, S.C., who died on Friday, December 14, 2012. He was the father of Robert of this community.

Born in Paterson, Mr. Baker lived in Midland Park and North Haledon before moving to Little River. He was the co-owner of the Hawthorne Laundry, Hawthorne, before retiring in 1996. Also, he was a special police officer in North Haledon in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a member of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, Wyckoff, and Calabash Presbyterian, Calabash, N.C. And, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Services were Tuesday at Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, Wyckoff, followed by interment at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn. Arrangements were by the Vander Vermeulen-Plaat Memorial Home, Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 25 E. Spring Valley Road, Suite 240, Maywood, NJ 07607.

Mr. Baker also is survived by his daughters, Beverly Smith of North Haledon, Linda Mencke of Saugerties, N.Y., and Arlene Scott of North Haledon; his sisters, Matilda Roetman, Janice Hey, and Ruth Wynbeek; and 10 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Henrietta Dykstra; and his sister, Mae Marie Boote.
