POMPTON LAKES — Services were held for Michael Weiner, 51, of this Mansfield, who died on Thursday, November 21, 2013. He was a former resident of this community.

Born in Paterson, Mr. Weiner was raised in Pompton Lakes. He was executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Also, he was a congregant, board member, and Sunday school teacher at the Jewish Center of Northwest Jersey, where the Hebrew school program was renamed the Mike Weiner School of Jewish Learning in his honor. He also was received the Williams College Bicentennial Medal and the Arthur Richman You Gotta Have Heart Award from the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, both in 2013.

Services were Sunday at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel, Paramus. Donations may be sent to Voices Against Brain Cancer, the Baseball Assistance Team, or your local Legal Services office.

Mr. Weiner is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughters, Margie, Grace, and Sally; his mother, Regina Raskin Pomper and her husband, Lewis Pomper; his stepmother, Terry Weiner; his brother, David; his sister, Danielle; and his stepsister, Lisa Pomper.
