Rita (Turner), entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 11th, 2013. Born on February 24th 1920 to the late Frederick and Martina (Curtis) Turner. She was the oldest of six children. She moved to Paterson, NJ in 1952 and started her own business in 1952 called, "Rita Lynn's Beauty Nest." She received her formal education from Atlantic City High School, and went on to receive her Bachelors degree from Montclair State University at the age of seventy-one. Rita was a Paterson Business Owner for over 25 years. Throughout her lifetime Rita has served in various church and community based organizations. She was an active member of The Community Baptist Church of Love in Paterson, New Jersey, serving as Chairperson of Women on the Move, She sponsored Feed the Homeless/Hungry Project, which provided ten thousand bags of food per year for those in need; Board and Lifetime member of the NAACP; President of American Association for Retired People (AARP), President of the Modern Beauticians Association, Member of Eastern Star, Member of The American Temple No.258 I.B.P.O.E. of W., and Tutor for Adults in the Paterson Literacy Program; She was the first black educator at Wilford Academy; on the Board of Concerned Parents for Headstart and taught high school at Passaic County Technical Institute, Wayne, NJ. Rita is survived by her Daughter, Camille Davis, Jersey City, NJ; Brother, Emory C. Turner and wife Myrtle, Atlantic City; Granddaughters, Dawn and Husband Dwight Alkins, Jersey City, NJ; Danita Davis, Paterson, NJ, and Two Nieces Patricia Turner-Colon and Husband Jonathan Colon, Virginia, and Vanessa Turner, Farmingdale, New York
And her very special life long friend, Henrietta Young, along with nephews, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, March 16, 2013, 2: PM at The Community Baptist Church of Love 535 Broadway, Paterson, NJ. Final Disposition: Cedar Lawn Crematory.
